Frequently Asked Question
Your Go-To Guide for Common Queries
Solar panels convert sunlight into electricity using photovoltaic cells, which capture sunlight and convert it into direct current (DC) electricity. An inverter then converts this DC electricity into alternating current (AC) electricity, which can power your home or business.
The cost of solar panels varies depending on factors like system size, location, and equipment. Send us a message now with some details of your property and what you are after, and we’ll come back to you with an initial estimate.
The payback period typically ranges from 5 to 10 years, but it varies depending on factors such as energy consumption, local incentives, and system cost.
Many countries and regions offer incentives, tax credits, and rebates to encourage solar panel installations. These incentives can significantly reduce the cost of going solar.
It’s recommended to have a structurally sound roof before installing solar panels. If your roof is in poor condition, it may need to be replaced before installation.
Solar panels typically have a lifespan of 25 years or more. They may continue to generate electricity beyond this period but at a reduced efficiency.
Solar panels require minimal maintenance, although for best performance and reliability we recommend that you get your panels professionally cleaned at least annually. Periodic cleaning and ensuring that they are free of debris is crucial to continue to get the most from your solar panel investment.
The amount of electricity generated depends on factors such as panel efficiency, orientation, shading, and location. An installer can provide a more accurate estimate based on your specific situation.
Solar panels can still generate electricity on cloudy or rainy days, although the output will be lower compared to sunny days.
a. Batteries are optional but can provide energy storage, allowing you to use solar power during the night or during power outages. They can increase energy independence.
a. Installation typically takes a few days to a couple of weeks, depending on the complexity of the project.
Yes, you may need permits and approvals from your local government or homeowner’s association. Your solar installer can help you with this process.
Excess electricity can often be fed back into the grid, depending on your location and utility’s policies, and you may receive credits or compensation for it.
Solar panels are often considered a valuable home improvement, but it’s essential to check local regulations and whether the new property is suitable for solar installation.
Before proceeding with installation, several factors need consideration. Firstly, there must be an unobstructed area on a pitched (not flat) roof capable of accommodating at least four solar panels. Refer to our FAQ section for details on space requirements. It’s imperative that this section of your roof receives sunlight throughout the day, rendering a north-facing roof unsuitable. Additionally, we must be able to erect scaffolding beneath this area of the structure to facilitate installation. Subsequently, you’ll need to evaluate the financial viability of solar panels. The greater your home’s energy consumption, the more advantageous solar panels and a battery become (resulting in savings equivalent to what you would have spent on bills, which can offset the solar system’s cost). For households with lower consumption, it’s essential to recognize that the payback period may be extended, a topic we can explore further during your consultation. Lastly, it’s important to note that, as of now, we are unable to install on properties with a 3-phase electricity meter. However, we are actively working on a resolution for this issue.
A battery enables you to store any excess electricity, rather than exporting it back to the grid, for later use when sunlight is not available. While the initial cost of a battery is higher than solar panels alone, it offers the advantage of self-sufficiency and potential savings on expensive grid electricity in the long term. Additionally, it ensures that the majority of the electricity consumed is sourced from clean, renewable, and home-generated energy.
Whether battery storage is recommended depends on your electricity generation and consumption patterns. For instance, if you consume a significant amount of energy during the evening hours, it’s likely that we would suggest incorporating a battery. This is because you may not be utilizing the solar energy during its peak production time in the daytime; instead, you can store the excess electricity in the battery for later use. Given the diverse nature of our lifestyles, various factors may influence this decision, but our team of solar advisors is equipped to assist you in making the best choice for your circumstances.
a. The number of panels we recommend for your roof depends on the available space and your energy consumption. Our panels measure 1.7m in length and 1.1m in width each, with a required 40cm gap between the roof edge and the solar system. Typically, an array consists of approximately 9-10 panels (equivalent to 3.5kW), fitting a roof area of approximately 26m2, occupying a total space of about 5.1m x 3.3m. For a minimum installation, we can fit 4 panels. The number of panels directly correlates with electricity generation, so we suggest a larger array only if your energy usage is high. We’ll discuss all options with you. Indoors, you’ll need space for an inverter measuring 440 x 260 x 480 (mm). If you opt for a battery, they come in two sizes:
5.2kWh: 515 x 220 x 480 (mm)
9.5kWh: 800 x 223 x 480 (mm)
